Drupal? Finally? AKA ADVENTURES Part 2!

So I have XAMPP, or LAMPP 'cuz it's for my Linux.  Good ol' MICK, I love my compy.  Anyways, what I did next is following this video:
However, I'm modifying it slightly, because I didn't want WAMP, I wanted XAMPP.  So far I've done it with exactly the same results.  I'll type if I run into a snag.
WOOO created a database!  Ooooh wow, this is sooo cool...
kk, ran into a few snags.  The file didn't recognize that I was the root, so I couldn't get in to move the drupal files into the place I wanted it.  So I got in and changed permissions, but it didn't recognize me as an owner, even if I did have permissions.  So I used chown on it to give my username power to modify the LAMPP files.  I might need to log out and log in again, hang on...  Nope, I needed to changed the permissions lower down.  Man, this is all connected so amazingly...  wow.
Okay, got the permission changed, and I dropped Drupal into it.  Yehaw!  Now I wait to see what I'm supposed to do next...
Goodness, that was a TRIP!   Drupal is now installed, and tomorrow I think I'll start playing around with it.  What did I learn today?  Oh, a heck of a lot.
1. Permissions.  They're EVERYTHING with Linux.  So when Mr Bravo made us play with them so much in our Linux class, there was actually a really important point to it.
2. That would've been better to know before I started out installing XAMPP and Drupal
3. But it's okay, 'cuz I know now.
4. Documentation is rocking awesome!  Now I can review this!  YEAH!
5. Ahh, sweet success.  You just can't beat the feeling of successfully installing something using a Linux terminal.  And also the GUI stuff.  I just love it when things work.
6. Like I said in the previous post, know where the chocolate is.
7. Google is your best friend. So is sudo su.

Adventures in Drupal! Just kidding... ADVENTURES Part 1!

So I'm learning about Drupal, it's "open source social publishing software that empowers individuals, teams, and communities to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website."

Good to know, right?  I know you've been waiting your whole life to discover that.  I'm giving you a blow by blow as I learn about it.  Why?  Because this blog is a wonderful tool to help me remember what on EARTH I get up to in the cyber world, and I don't want to forget.  Right now, I'm doing something I haven't done since PRG 223 or something like unto that, I'm installing XAMPP for Linux on my Linux machine.  Drupal runs on XAMPP or WAMP if you're trying to run in locally.  And I'd definitely recommend playing with it locally first.  Blowing up a website = not that much fun.
XAMPP for Linux was formerly known as LAMPP.  Now with that info, it's finally finished downloading, and time for me to play with the terminal.  I'm going off of http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html#374 for my instructions.

Well, what a peach.  I think I forgot my sudo login.  Excellent, especially since I seem to be needing that... Now I have to reboot into recovery mode and reset that...  I hope my compy doesn't get wiped and stuff, that would really be fun.  ;)
Rebooted, didn't get it, moved on, hung around the Linux forums, found this wonderful person who said:

You do not need to be in single user mode.
It is much MUCH simpler to reset this, I will tell you how.
Open a terminal program (command line, X terminal, whatever you want.)
type:
sudo su
You know are acting as 'root' of your system.
now type:
passwd
it will say: "Now changing password for root" or whatever. Just follow your computer's directions from here.
This person I now love.  Because it worked.  NOW let's see if we can install LAMPP
Okay, we need to be in the Downloads directory.  And remember, this is all case sensitive.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THAT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember folks, in situations where things aren't quite going the way they should, keep a cool head and remember where the nearest chocolate source is.
Beautiful, it passed.  I have XAMPP for Linux on my machine.  JOY AND CELEBRATION!!!!! NOW I CAN PLAY WITH DRUPAL!!!!!!!!!
Okay, I'm posting this as part 1.  Next up we'll play with Drupal!

Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Winter!

Has anyone besides me noticed how gorgeous the colors are this winter?  I don't think I've ever seen a more colorful winter.  I know that sounds weird, but the browns are browner, the greens are greener, and that gross brownish grey color doesn't seem to be seen anywhere I look.  I'm looking at my Grandparent's backyard as I write this, and they have this tree filled with maroon berries and a few trees with some deep orange leaves.  All are such darkly saturated colors, it's gorgeous!!!  While I love and adore snow, this rain makes everything look magical in a different way, and I love it!!
It's totally unique.  I don't remember a winter ever looking like this!  I wish I could capture it with a camera, but the cameras don't seem to do it justice.  Neither does this post.  haha... Oh well!  It's so funny too, because this morning I spotted some blue sky, and I thought that was a little depressing, but decided to roll with it, then suddenly out of nowhere all this rain began pelting outside!  It was fantastic!
Anyways, I love colors.  Just for the record, we had some amazing Sunsets this year too, some of the coolest I've ever seen!

A New Post!

CELTIC HOLIDAY WAS SOOOOOOOO FANTASTIC!!!
I just had to throw that out there.
We had a great time, and lots of people came!  It was sweet too, because even though we had like 3 performances, we actually made it through!  It was awesome!  Everyone did a great job, and coming off it has been really fun, because we get to watch everyone improve now that we can start actually teaching them dances again!  YAY!!!!!!!
And I made a profile on Mormon.org!

I'm a Mormon.

That's my spiffy button.  You should click it!  I have a ridiculous picture on it right now though, I want to change it eventually.  But I'll have to take a picture first, then upload it and... yeah.  I'd rather use this, because I don't want to go to ALL that work.  Just kidding!!!  haha  I'll do it eventually!

I just clicked it, and it's not working yet.  But soon it will!  So I'll just leave it on there!  haha

Updates and that

Hey guess WHAT???  There are only 16 days until Celtic Holiday.  Well, at least the preview for Celtic Holiday...  on Friday night...  And so there are basically 17 days until Celtic Holiday!
(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!)
Treasures team is basically ready, which is super sweet!  Gold team is also basically ready, just a few more things and we've got it!  And then we'll finish Unplugged, which reminds me, I have some music to edit.  And a playlist to edit.  And a line-up to finish.  And then I have the lights to do...  tehe...  and yet here I am blogging about all the things I need to do but haven't yet...  XD  It's mostly done, just the finishing touches.
So here I go!  :D

Ponderings

Whenever I see the word ponderings, I think of Jeeves and Wooster where Bertie shoves the little brother of Anoria Glossop into the pond.  Bertie calls him imponderable.  Emphasis on the pond.  Anyways, I'm not in a pond, I have not been shoved into a pond, and I don't live in a pond.  Thank goodness that's out of the way...  :D
So we just started up Choir at the Institute!  Second week in, and the songs are already playing through my head!  It's fun too, because this year I have more confidence, can find the alto line more easily, and Odorf was teaching me about singing on the drive home last night, and I was able to feel like it was supposed to feel.  I was really excited!  That being said, I need practice. Lots and lots of practice.  But at least I did it once so I can know what it feels like!  I'm excited for next week!  :D
Another thing that I've been thinking about is the Dressing Your Truth system.  I LOVE IT.  I'm just going to tell about my experience with it, because I've been bottling it up inside of me, which means it has the tendency to explode in odd ways.  haha
I've been dressing my truth as a type 1, and I've loved being so comfortable with who I am.  It shows on the outside who I am on the inside, and I don't have to worry about being myself, it just happens naturally!  It's great, because I feel like I'm more sensitive to people around me, like I could help them if they needed me or I wouldn't be afraid to ask for help.  I don't apologize for myself anymore, my words to describe myself have changed.  Instead of saying something like "Oh gee, I'm fat.  I need to eat less and exercise more."  I say something like "Don't I look oh so adorable today!" and I don't think about weight, and I've never felt healthier.  I love how my closet isn't a dull necessity, it's a fun place filled with super fun stuff!  A treasure cave instead of a broom closet.  Mirrors aren't my enemy anymore either, and I've been able to let go of so much worry in my life.
So not only have I had a HUGE amount of fun, I really am loving the positive effect it's had on me!  Now that I understand myself so much better, I look forward to trying to understand the other types.  Which will be fun in my family with one Type 2, two Type 4s, and one more Type 1!  Not a lot of 3 in my family, although I'm pretty sure that's my secondary type...  but I really followed the Type 1 way of reading the book, which I laughed about since I didn't even know at first...  I was like OOOOH a book!  NO SHINY.  I skip, besides I understand this anyways, even though I skimmed it once.  Wait...  she just said what I did.  Psychic lady.
:D So yeah, watching the online course or re-reading the book again is an order.
And yeah, I'm going to sleep now, I have committees in the morning!  And then graduation, where I get to wear a spiffy hat that makes me look like a turtle.  Woohoo.  AND THEN THE INSTITUTE SPECTACULAR!!!  Talk about fun!  :D  Anyways, life is awesome, I love it, and great stuff!
